Founded in February 2005, YouTube is the leader in online video, and the premier destination to watch and share original videos worldwide through a Web experience. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips on www.YouTube.com and across the Internet through websites, mobile devices, blogs, and email. It enables companies to place advertisement to either promote their product or just to create awareness that a particular movie or music album are going to be release. As the number of various contents being uploaded increases, the number of viewer will tends to increase. Additionally, viewer do not need to register or log in to view video clip this will certainly bring in more viewers and eventually it benefits those companies who have place their advertisement there as there will be more exposure of their products.

Youtube has make it easier for people who wants to be noticed, even if in the end their video gets taken down but at the very least they have already got what they really want. Customer can voice their unhappiness or recommend  a  certain product by putting up video clip about it, likewise, companies can also put up video clip regarding their product, be it a demonstration video clip or just a how to use it video clip. It has made life so much easier as viewers do not have to waste time uploading video, all they have to do is just a click away.

For the future, Youtube will have to think of ways to retain their existing client as more and more video-sharing websites have been launched following their success. On top of the stiff commercial competition, the issue of violating copyright will always remain due to the fact that video clip were not being screened before uploading to the web.

Lionel Chin started as a freelance web-designer in 1999 and spent 5 years with the Police force. Aftermath, he collaborated with his clients and started creating business for his company and became the co-founder of Ripplewerkz. Ripplewerkz is an all in one design house which offers high quality Web, Blog, Print and Corporate ID development. Boasting an impressive portfolio of projects such as Nuffnang, Prominent bloggers/Celebrities (eg. Allan Wu (The Amazing Race Asia), Wong Lilin (Mediacorp), Nico Chua (FM 933 DJ), Lunch Actually, Airtrade and The Eurasian Association (Singapore) etc, the name Lionel Chin certainly resonates in the digital industry.

He showed us what he have design for professional blogger, XiaXue’s blog which many of us thought that she design her blog template herself. He presented some of he works done for Nuffnang, Bossming, clicknetwork.tv and his own company’s website.

Things that he did on creating website: He took 1-3 days to design the drafting. Next getting opinion from clients and follow by the coding on HTML, CSS etc.

Besides showing us his portfolios, he answered questions on the pricing of designing a website for clients. He mentioned that it is more beneficial to include social media to new media. By advertising your website on Facebook , blogs or even spend some money on forums could help get more clients from other aspects. It is not easy to start, hence in order to help you to get more clients; he said that what we need to do now is to build up our portfolio. Start charging subsequential fee to build up your portfolio. Traffic your website to increase your income and advertise!

I am inspired by how he started as a freelance web-designer and now a popular designer in the digital industry. I am quite interested in the area of designing websites for clients. After his presentation, i get a rough idea on how a web-designer does and the industry of it. It is a great opportunity for him to share his expertise, experience in web development to us. I think the use of new media tools in the industry will also help to inspire me as a learning journey and change the perspective of viewing things from a different point.

Non-profitable illness support group

Autism causes kids to experience the world differently from the way most kids do. Kids with autism have difficulty in talking with other people and expressing themselves using words. They usually keep to themselves and many can’t communicate without special help.

This causes siblings of the autistic kids to have difficulties in communicating with them. They do not understand what has happen to them and doesn’t know what to do.

Autism Siblings Support Group Singapore is a non-profitable group to support the siblings of autistic kids. They organise events and group meetings for siblings of autistic children on a regular basis for them to understand their siblings better and make friends with other kids that know what they are going through.

“AS3″ was founded by a psychologist who specialises in treating of children with Autism and enjoys working with all types of children in general. Besides treating them, she makes sure that they enjoy having fun while learning techniques to use with their own angers and things their siblings or parents do.

In order to bring up the awareness of this non-profitable support group, we can help to publicise by putting up posters on poly-clinics, school, churches and buses. As this is the most cost effective way since it is a non-profit organization therefore i believe financial resources are limited.

In addition, by getting volunteers to sell flags to bring up the awareness of the organizations. Giving talk in school can also help to raise awareness among children, letting them know what help they need. Volunteers can also help to re-design the website of its support group and advertise through various website that the netizens could notice. It not only helps to publicise in public areas but also website around the world.

NARA is the successor agency to the National Archives Establishment, which was created in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt, but its major holdings date back to 1775. Subsequently incorporated into the General Services Administration as the National Archives and Records Service in 1949. NARA was established as an independent agency in the executive branch of the government on October 19, 1984.

It’s responsibility is to maintain and publish the legally authentic and authoritative copies of acts of Congress, presidential proclamations and executive orders, and federal regulations. The chief administrator of NARA, the Archivist of the United States, not only maintains the official documentation of the passage of amendments to the U.S. Constitution by state legislatures, but has the authority to declare when the constitutional threshold for passage has been reached, and therefore when an act has become an amendment.

There are approximately 9 billion pages of textual records; 7.2 million maps, charts, and architectural drawings; more than 20 million still photographs; billions of machine-readable data sets; and more than 365,000 reels of film and 110,000 videotapes. It ensures that the American people can discover, use, and learn from this documentary heritage, providing them to search for past records of their family’s history.

NARA is currently using Social Media & Web 2.0 technologies to enhance better communication to the public of Americans. On 18 June 2009, the National Archives launched a YouTube channel so as to showcase popular archived films, providing upcoming events around the country and lastly bringing the National Archives exhibits to everyone around the city. Literature Review: Google Launches Commerce Search For Retailers

With the increasing number of people shopping online, I am not surprise that Google also wanted a share in this multi-billion pie.Though it seems rather late to introduce this feature, however I am still glad that Google has this additional feature.

Google

The new feature not only allow consumers to shop indoor but also with ease. It enables consumer to find the right product faster as google adopts a filtering technology thus saving time. It doesn’t matter if you do not know exactly which category your product belongs to or how to spell the name. Google provides user-friendly spelling options and synonyms.

As compared to the olden days, shopping have never been so easy. Consumers have to travel all the way down to the respective shops just to get what they want. Imagine the time and money spent on travelling. Inorder to get the best price, we had to walk around searching for the same product and do some price comparison. The worst scenario will be, not being able to get what we want, upon reaching there. It might be the stock has already ran out or the colour that we wanted is not available. In addition, we won’t be able to know the price until we get there unless we have their product catalogs which is a norm for those bigger size organizations but not for small shop.

Online shopping has been an impactful new media trends. It not only help to save time but also money. The convenience of shopping online has attracted billions of youth as well as adults.
